This past Sunday South Florida experienced a tragic and for some people life changing event. Hurricane Irma hit. We thought waiting and anticipating this storm or being in the middle of the storm was the hardest part. Then the storm subsides and reality sinks in. Homes are destroyed, floods cover the beautiful streets, people are trapped inside homes, power is out in practically the entire town, and everyone now has to deal with real life in our own individual ways.
What I realized during the power outage and the skies roaring above me, is that God speaks louder than all the chaos. He speaks love into those who need it. He calms those who reach out to Him with His Perfect Peace.
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
With my headphones in and worship music blasting between my two ear drums I hid under my blanket in a shelter full of hundreds and hundreds of people. Overwhelmed and emotionally and physically drained. I kept reminding myself God works in mysterious ways. That circumstances work FOR us not against us. (Was reminded of that from a friend of mine).
You rule the oceans. You subdue their storm-tossed waves.
Call out to God. When the storm hit, the shelter broke out in various forms of worship. Groups of people circled together, calling out in prayer. People began to sing out to God. A woman knelt down beside her cot to cry out for help. Another with her hands held high and her Bible out on her lap.
In a time full of chaos and mess everyone came together and we felt the presence of God.
Thank you, Lord for holding us in your hands during times of need. We love you. You are STILL good. I pray that those affected by this hurricane in a significant way are able to rebuild and restore their homes and lives. Be with their anxious hearts.
